Urgent eye care appeal for Ethiopia

Ethiopia has one of the lowest patient to optometrist ratio in the world, with fewer than three qualified optometrists per million! The team at D J Dunstone in Hadleigh are helping Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) to raise money to train and support optometry students and staff at Hawassa University in Ethiopia, to help bring local access to eye tests.

Holly Coleman, one of the optometrists at D J Dunstone, spent two weeks examining sight in Ethiopia during May 2017. There she worked with local optometrist Mulugeta and has seen first-hand the need for eye care and the difference VAO can make with our help. Click here for more information about Holly's trip.

Prize draw

prize draw Sept 2017

During the month of August 2017 patients were invited to call into D J Dunstone Optometry in Queen Street make a small donation to Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) and, in so doing, were entered into a draw. In just 4 weeks a total of £84.40 was collected which has been sent to VAO for the eye care for Ethiopia campaign.

Thank you to all of you who donated to this most worthy cause. We are pleased to announce that the prize draw (of a £75 voucher to spend on goods or services in the Practice) was won by Mrs Sue Mackie of Elmsett. This is rather fitting as she set up Elmsett School's recycling Centre over 20 years ago to raise funds for the school and as a teaching aid for various Eco related topics. This involves collecting unwanted spectacles for VAO and continues to be very well supported by the pupils and local community.
